D. Apkendrick et al., THE REACTION OF TETRAKIS(TRIMETHYLSILOXY)SILANE, QM(4), AND HEXAKIS(TRIMETHYLSILOXY)DISILOXANE, Q(2)M(6), WITH SODIUM-HYDROXIDE IN ETHANOL, Journal of inorganic and organometallic polymers, 5(1), 1995, pp. 95-102
The reaction of the two model polyorganosiloxanes, QM(4) and Q(2)M(6),
With ethanolic sodium hydroxide is reported (Q=SiO4/2 and M=Me(3)SiO(
1/2)). Removal of the M groups from QM(4) was rapid and led to the for
mation of a sodium silicate species which was insoluble in organic sol
vents. The reaction with Q(2)M(6), however, was incomplete and gave hy
brid structures of the type Q(2)M(6-x)(O1/2Na)(x). A possible pathway
for the formation of the sodium silicate species from QM(4) is propose
