Abstract
A simplified model of one particular thermistor is presented and an ap proximate functional solution for the evolving coupled thermo-electric problem is obtained by an application of the heat balance integral me thod. The solution is shown to exhibit all the correct physical charac teristics and this simple model extracts a mechanism by which the obse rved cracking of these devices might be initiated.
