Abstract
Mono-substituted acetylenes with liquid crystalline group consisting o f phenylcyclohexyl and biphenyl moieties as mesogenic cores have been synthesized and polymerized using Ziegler-Natta and metathesis catalys ts. Measurements of DSC and polarized microscopy showed that the polym ers have smectic liquid crystal phases, while the monomer with phenylc yclohexyl moiety linked with octyl terminal group has nematic phase.
