Abstract
A variety of optical probe techniques have been applied to films of po ly(phenylene-ethynylene-silane) copolymers. We show that the sigma-ele ctron bands dominate the absorption and electro-absorption spectra, wh ereas the lower energy pi-electron bands give rise to photoluminescenc e from singlet excitons and to long-lived triplet excitons, respective ly.
