Abstract
The data on the degradation of nanocrystalline nickel (nc-Ni) in the p resence of liquid mercury are presented. Mercury etches nc-Ni on grain boundaries and simultaneously a new phase Ni-Hg appears. Crack nuclea tion takes place in an amalgam area.
