Novel benzene fused cyclic polysulfides, 4,7-disubstituted benzotrithi
oles, are synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallographic anal
ysis, and their one-electron oxidation resulted in the formation of st
able 4,7-disubstituted benzotrithiolium radical cations with an 11 pi
electron framework.
