This paper is a discussion of the utility of biomarkers as a component
of the ecological risk assessment process. Both the pros and the cons
of biomarkers are discussed, as well as consideration of some of the
sources of variability. In the end, biomarkers are considered useful a
s long as we are aware of their limitations and sources of uncontrolle
d variability.
