Abstract
Based on a survey of first-year university students and faculty, this study assessed the effects of gender and status on tolerance for gende r-based humour and the impact of the same factors on acceptability of such humour in the classroom, at social gatherings, and at family part ies. Results showed tolerance ratings were determined by gender as wel l as status and their interactions. Implications of findings within sh ifting gender relations are discussed.
