Abstract
SnS and SnSe single crystals were grown by the Bridgeman-Stockbarger m ethod. Vickers hardness measurements were carried out on the cleavage surfaces of the crystals. The load dependence of hardness was studied and compared for the two crystals. The bulk hardnesses of the crystals have been found to be about 950 and 980 MPa, respectively. The measur ements were also carried out on samples quenched from various high tem peratures. The quench-hardening indices have been evaluated and the re sults are reported.
