Abstract
The crystal point group and space group have been determined for the o rdered intermetallic compound Al2Ta using convergent-beam electron dif fraction and indexed selected-area diffraction patterns. Al2Ta is dete rmined to belong to the cubic point group ($) over bar 43m, and to the f.c.c. space group F ($) over bar 43m (No. 216). X-ray diffraction da ta provide a measured lattice constant of 1.9157 +/- 0.002nm. The dens ity of Al2Ta is determined to be 7.4 +/- 0.4 g cm(-3), and the unit ce ll contains roughly 400 +/- 26 atoms.
