K. Mrozek et al., HIGH-RESOLUTION CYTOGENETIC STUDY OF A LIPOMA WITH THE ASSIGNMENT OF BREAKPOINT TO 1P31.3-32 AND 12Q15, Journal of experimental & clinical cancer research, 14(1), 1995, pp. 69-71
Structural rearrangements of the region 12q13-15 are the most consiste
nt cytogenetic findings in lipoma. Recently, six cases of lipoma with
the morphologically identical translocation (1;12)(p33-34;q14-15) have
been reported, suggesting that this is the second most frequent, spec
ific, primary chromosome abnormality in this type of benign tumor, fol
lowing the t(3;12)(q27-28;q13-15). We obtained high resolution banding
patterns of the derivative chromosomes in a case of lipoma with a see
mingly identical t(1;12). We are able to confirm assignment of the chr
omosome 12 breakpoint to 12q15, whereas the breakpoint in chromosome 1
appeared to be located more proximally than previously suggested - at
1p31.3-32.
