The formation of spores and the correlated production of soluble metab
olites, mainly the trichorzianines out of the pentaibolclass, were tes
ted with four strains of the fungus Trichoderma harzianum exerted agai
nst Phanerochaete chrysosporium in an agar diffusion test. The antifun
gal metabolites could only be detected after conidiogenesis took place
. We concluded that the trichorzianines are responsible for the main b
iocontrol effect on wood by soluble metabolites and that they are prod
uced during conidiogenesis.
