Ag. Gerber et Acm. Sousa, A PARAMETRIC STUDY OF THE HAZELETT THIN-SLAB CASTING PROCESS, Journal of materials processing technology, 49(1-2), 1995, pp. 41-56
A parametric study is presented for the Hazelett thin-slab steel casti
ng process. The paper investigates the influence of the belt heat tran
sfer, steel superheat, casting speed, and nozzle diameter on the growt
h of the solidification front within the easter. The numerical results
compare well with results available in the literature and show that t
he belt heat-transfer and casting speed are the process parameters tha
t are most influential on the development of the solidification front.
In addition, the influence of the major process parameters on the coo
ling rates in the easter is investigated also. A fixed-grid enthalpy f
ormulation is used allowing, with a single set of equations, the descr
iption of the liquid region, the two-phase mushy zone, and the solid r
egion.
