The temperature and frequency dependences of the absolute value of int
ernal friction and shear modulus of glassy As - S (Se) alloys have bee
n investigated with a torsion pendulum in the temperature range of 77
K - T-g (T-g is the glass transition temperature) for frequencies of 1
0(-3) - 10(-1) Hz. For the observed beta-relaxation process the approp
riate parameters are estimated. The internal Friction maxims are descr
ibed in terms of the linear viscoelasticity. The possible mechanism of
the relaxation process under examination is discussed.
