The glass formation in model binary melts with different types of phas
e diagrams has been considered. Calculations of both the nucleation fr
equency and relative quantity of a crystalline phase have been made wi
thin the framework of a modified theory of homogeneous nucleation in b
inary melts. The proposed theory takes into account the work associate
d with fluctuations of component concentrations in the microvolume of
alloy. Detailed computations give good predictions of an amorphyzation
ability of alloys with concentrations near eutectics and absence of t
his ability for alloys with the cigar-like state diagram at quenching
rates of T = 10(6) K/s.
