The spreading of extraordinary electromagnetic surface waves (SW) in a
cold collisionless plasma bounded by the metallic chamber of an arbit
rary cross-section across a stationary magnetic field have been invest
igated by means of the perturbation theory. Their properties have been
compared with those of SW in a planar plasma layer and in a circular
plasma cylinder. The SW frequency shift caused by non-circularity of t
he chamber cross-section shape is of the second order in the small par
ameter and the SW field distribution has been found from the Maxwell e
quations with the accuracy up to the first order in it. SW in the n-se
miconductor plasma, filling the waveguide of a square cross-section, h
ave been investigated as an example.
