Abstract
This paper examines how wireless technologies can be used effectively in India to provide telephones in urban and rural areas. Even though t he telephone density in India is very low unless there is cost reducti on in providing a telephone, there cannot be an explosive increase in telephones. This paper proposes a DECT based Wireless in Local Loop sy stem for urban areas, and a hybrid with a TDM-TDMA Point-to-multipoint system for rural areas as a cost effective solution.
