J. Caston, VESTIBULAR COMPENSATION IN THE EUROPEAN GREEN FROG (RANA-ESCULENTA L)AND EFFECT OF TRAINING ON COMPENSATION, Brain, behavior and evolution, 45(5), 1995, pp. 266-271
Compensation of the vestibular deficits following section of the ampul
lary nerve of a horizontal semicircular canal was studied from a behav
ioral point of view in the European green frog. Post-rotation reaction
s, which are highly asymmetrical the day after the lesion, became symm
etrical, as they are in intact animals, 45-60 days later. It was shown
that vestibular and motor training given post-operatively did not enh
ance the rate at which compensation was achieved.
