On the basis of the authors' rule of sliding to transform elastic solu
tion to plastic in a previous paper, a new method of calculating fatig
ue is developed by using ordinary relaxation methods in conjunction to
take care of the gradual enlarging of the plastic zone. The results o
f the calculations agree with the experimental data by the fine grid m
ethod. The calculation method developed here with the authors' crack p
ropagation prediction method in another previous paper lead to an inte
rpretation of fatigue mechanism.
