Abstract
A thermal conductivity tool for the pilot hole of the Continental Deep Drilling Program in the Federal Republic of Germany (KTB) was develop ed and constructed for depths up to 4000 m. The concept is based on th e theory of a cylindrical heat source. First measurements in a shallow borehole show good agreement with laboratory measurements on cores.
