The impact has been assessed of the new technology that a dozen firms
have been using to manage the complexity resulting from the requiremen
ts of flexibility and adaptation. This assessment shows that, although
new professional qualities have emerged, the classical organization h
as not been deeply affected. An in-depth change cannot occur as long a
s programs focus on internal mechanisms and do not raise questions of
a more political sort about the wage-earning relationship.
