E. Suarezmorales et R. Palomaresgarcia, A NEW SPECIES OF MONSTRILLA (COPEPODA, MONSTRILLOIDA) FROM A COASTAL SYSTEM OF THE BAJA-CALIFORNIA PENINSULA, MEXICO, Journal of plankton research, 17(4), 1995, pp. 745-752
From plankton samples taken at Puerto Escondido, a Mexican shallow-wat
er embayment located in the southern portion of the eastern coast of t
he Baja California Peninsula, a new species of Monstrilla, M. gibbosa,
is described from a single adult female specimen. Among several disti
nctive features on the fifth leg and genital complex, and in the anten
nular structure and proportions, the new species can be separated from
all other previously known monstrilloids by the presence of two anter
ior ventral protuberances on the cephalosome.
