FeS2 (pyrite form), K2SO4, K3Fe(SO4)(3) and alpha-Fe2O3 are the produc
ts of thermal decomposition of crystalline KFeS2, from room temperatur
e up to 1000 degrees C, in air. Grinding of iron potassium sulfide pri
or to heating leads to a modified reaction pattern; the decomposition
products are the same, but their formation temperatures are considerab
ly lower than in the case of the unground crystals. Morphological feat
ures of the thermal reaction products are also considerably modified b
y KFeS2 grinding.
