E. Balistreri et al., DEVELOPMENT AND PRELIMINARY VALIDATION OF THE EGO IDENTITY PROCESS QUESTIONNAIRE, Journal of adolescence, 18(2), 1995, pp. 179-192
A new self-report identity inventory was developed that avoids some of
the shortcomings of previous measures and offers the advantages of sh
ort completion time, objective scoring, and separate, continuous explo
ration and commitment scores. The Ego Identity Process Questionnaire c
onsists of 32 items which assess the dimensions of exploration and com
mitment in eight areas: occupation, religion, politics, values, family
, friendships, dating, and sex roles. Three samples of college student
s were utilized. Evidence was presented of moderately high reliability
and of construct and concurrent validation via confirmatory factor an
alysis, association with Marcia's interview, and relationships with pe
rsonality characteristics.
