The Nipawin delta extends eastward from the town of Nipawin in east-ce
ntral Saskatchewan. The Prince Albert and Fort a la Corne deltas forme
d in Lake Saskatchewan at the mouths of the South and North Saskatchew
an rivers, whereas the Nipawin and Mossyvale deltas formed in Lake Aga
ssiz at the mouth of the Saskatchewan River. These deltas became lower
in elevation and younger eastward. Clays beneath the Nipawin and Moss
yvale deltas can be traced beneath the Prince Albert and Fort a la Com
e deltas with little change in thickness, suggesting that most of the
clays beneath the Nipawin and Mossyvale deltas were deposited during t
he formation of the Prince Albert and Fort a la Corne deltas. The Nipa
win delta formed between 10200 and 9500 BP. The Campbell strandline (E
merson phase) was the shoreline of the Nipawin delta. The Mossyvale de
lta formed about 9500 BP. The surface of the Mossyvale delta (McCauley
ville level) is about 40 m below the surface of the Nipawin delta (Cam
pbell level).
