Abstract
The reaction between nitric oxide and the naturally occurring caroteno id beta-carotene is shown by EPR and optical spectroscopy to produce a series of nitroxides with concomitant loss in conjugation of the beta -carotene molecule, with a rate constant of ca. 10(3) dm(3) mol(-1).
