Dr. Husain et al., MORPHOLOGICAL ADAPTATION OF PSEUDOMONAS-NAUTICA STRAIN-617 TO GROWTH ON EICOSANE AND MODES OF EICOSANE UPTAKE, Letters in applied microbiology, 24(1), 1997, pp. 55-58
The transfer of Pseudomonas nautica 617 from a hydrophilic growth subs
trate (acetate) to a solid hydrocarbon substrate (eicosane) induced ma
jor morphological changes. The cell surface was covered by extracellul
ar vesicles, and filamentous structures were observed. Adherence and e
mulsification were the two main modes of transfer of hydrocarbon to th
e cell surface. Growth on eicosane was associated with biosurfactant p
roduction.
