PLUG AND PLAY STANDARDS IN IT AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS - ARE THEY EFFECTIVE

A Workshop held in October 1994 by the Information Engineering Committ ee of the IEE discussed current and future challenges for the identifi cation, development and use of standards in the promotion of open comp etition in the purchasing and supply of IT and telecommunications serv ices, systems and equipment. As in the previous Workshops organised by the Committee, attendance was by invitation only, and the 25 particip ants were chosen to ensure that a variety of perspectives was represen ted, including those of suppliers, procurers and users, government and industry, and those concerned with standards-making in standards orga nisations and industry.
