Abstract
The remits of temperature measurements in six boreholes, drilled near the west shores of the Lake Nasser in the Aswan region in the Nubian D esert, are reported. Temperature-depth profiles, complemented by therm al conductivity determinations of surface rock samples, were used to c alculate the existing range of heatflow density in the region as 40 di vided by 60 mWm(-2) which is consistent with the values from the adjac ent areas, reported in the literature. The extrapolated mean annual gr ound surface temperatures amount, on the average, to 30 degrees C, whi ch is 3 K higher than the mean annual air temperature in the region.
