Abstract
Experience with the alpha charge exchange recombination spectroscopy a nd pellet charge exchange confined, nonthermal alpha particle diagnost ics over the first two years of Tokamak test fusion reactor (TFTR) D-T operation is summarized. A brief summary of the concept, instrumentat ion, and analysis techniques for each diagnostic is given, followed by examples of alpha physics results. Issues important to further develo pment of these diagnostic techniques for TFTR and ITER are discussed. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
