We investigate the magnetoplasmon polariton modes and the propagation
of electromagnetic waves in a random-thickness superlattice in a magne
tic field. The layer thicknesses are distributed in accordance with a
special probability function. The magnetic field is parallel to the in
terfaces, and the propagation of the waves is perpendicular to the fie
ld. By use of the transfer-matrix method we show that there exists a r
esonant optical transmission for waves with particular frequencies. We
calculate the dispersion relation of the bulk modes, the resonant fre
quencies and the transmission coefficients. The transmission coefficie
nts at the resonant frequencies are sensitive to variations in the mag
netic field. Possible applications of such a structure in new devices
are discussed.
