G. Pelosi et al., SCATTERING FROM A WEDGE WITH CAVITY-BACKED APERTURES IN ITS FACES ANDRELATED CONFIGURATIONS - TE CASE, IEE proceedings. Microwaves, antennas and propagation, 142(2), 1995, pp. 183-188
The scattering of a TE polarised wave from a perfectly conducting wedg
e with irregular inclusions in its faces is analysed. These inclusions
consist of cavity backed apertures, located at an arbitrary distance
from the edge of the wedge. The cavities may be irregularly shaped and
filled with inhomogeneous dielectric materials. By resorting to a par
ticular formulation of the equivalence principle, which implies coveri
ng the apertures with metallic plates, the original issue is divided i
nto an exterior problem (perfectly conducting wedge) and a number of i
nterior problems equal to that of the apertures. The exterior canonica
l problem is formulated by exploiting the exact perfectly conducting w
edge Green's function or its asymptotic approximation. The more involv
ed interior problems are treated by employing the finite element metho
d. The solutions are then joined by enforcing the continuity condition
of the fields at each aperture opening. The problem of nonphysical in
terior resonances is addressed. Numerical results are presented to dem
onstrate the applicability of the technique.
