M. Simsim et al., A NEW FRULLANIA SPECIES (TRACHYCOLEA) FROM PORTUGAL AND MACARONESIA, FRULLANIA-AZORICA SP-NOV, Cryptogamie. Bryologie, lichenologie, 16(2), 1995, pp. 111-123
Observations on the morphology combined with computer-assisted analyse
s of phenetics (principal component analysis) as well as chemical dete
ction and isolation of flavonoid and terpenoid compounds, have confirm
ed the existence of a new species, Frullania azorica. Frullania azoric
a is maintained within the subgenus Trachycolea, where it is possibly
closely related to F. eboracensis though not easily separated from ste
rile forms of F. dilatata. The species occurs in Portugal and the Atla
ntic Islands (Azores, Madeira and Canaries).
