A quantum non-linear theory for transport that includes many body effe
cts is applied to a two-dimensional electron gas in an AlGaAs/GaAs het
erostructure. Two formulations that result from the theory are employe
d in investigations of the transient and steady state behavior of the
electronic velocity and the hot electron temperature. Calculations usi
ng both approaches in the transient state are compared with available
Monte Carlo results. Calculations for the steady state are compared wi
th experimental data.
