Jg. Jeffers et al., A DERMATOSIS RESEMBLING JUVENILE CELLULITIS IN AN ADULT DOG, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 31(3), 1995, pp. 204-208
A two-year-old, female Lhasa apso presented with an acute onset of fev
er, anorexia, lethargy prescapular and mandibular lymphadenopathy, oti
tis externa, and a dermatitis involving the perioral and auricular ski
n. Histopathological examination of affected skin and a mandibular lym
ph node was diagnostic for juvenile cellulitis. Extensive hematologica
l, serological, urine, skin, and fecal testing together with special s
taining, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopic examination of s
kin and lymph node biopsies failed to reveal an underlying etiology. A
fter 15 weeks the condition resolved completely. This represents the f
irst adult case of a dermatosis fitting the clinical, histological, an
d clinicopathological description ascribed to juvenile cellulitis.
