Abstract
An exact analytical expression for the time-bandwidth product Delta t Delta f of chirped sech(2) pulses is derived. The relation can be expr essed by Delta t Delta f = 0.1786 arcosh(cosh pi alpha + 2) as a funct ion of the laser's phase-amplitude coupling factor alpha. An experimen tal measurement of the alpha factor that relies on this formula is dis cussed.
