Abstract
An optimal output feedback algorithm with spillover stabilization prop erty is developed for the vibration control of flexible structures. Th e controller is derived from a quadratic performance index with weight ing matrices of control and observation spillover from residual modes. Stability robustness of a closed loop system with velocity feedback c an then be guaranteed by preventing the observation spillover; further more, the performance degradation from control spillover can be minimi zed. It is shown that, under the presence of residual modes, the contr oller is superior to LQG control both in stability and performance.
