THROMBOCYTOPENIA AND RASH UNDER ADD-ON-TH ERAPY WITH LAMOTRIGINE AND SODIUM VALPROATE IN A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL WITH LENNOX-GASTAUT SYNDROME

We report on a 15-year-old girl with therapy-resistant Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. After 10 months of sodium valproate monotherapy (2400 mg) we introduced lamotrigine (25 mg every second day) as ''add-on'' therapy . During this time we observed no seizures. Two weeks later the patien t developed a maculopapular rash with oedema of the mucosa and a throm bocytopenia but without clinical signs of bleeding abnormalities. Afte r discontinuing lamotrigine and under adding of prednisone the rash an d thrombocytopenia gradually improved.
