Abstract
Infections are common in elderly persons. The clinical manifestations of infection may be atypical or absent in the elderly. The microbial c ause for many common infections may be more diverse in elderly patient s, and obtaining diagnostic clinical specimens often is more difficult . Aging is associated with changes in pharmacokinetics and a higher ra te of adverse drug reactions. These factors impact on the approach to treating infections in the elderly.
