We investigate the interband electron-phonon coupling in YBa2Cu3O7-x,
and show that it is important for the Raman intensity of the B-1g phon
on and for the interaction between the O2 and O3 ions. In the Raman sc
attering this interaction leads to a new mechanism for the Raman activ
ity of the B-1g phonon that explains the experimentally observed ratio
of Raman intensities for the two plane vibrations in z(xx + yy)(z) ov
er bar geometry. In addition, a charge transfer between the plane oxyg
en ions due to this interaction causes a slight hardening of the frequ
ency of the B-1g vibration.
