R. Borgohain et al., HEMIBALLISMUS DUE TO AN IPSILATERAL STRIATAL HEMORRHAGE - AN UNUSUAL LOCALIZATION, Journal of the neurological sciences, 130(1), 1995, pp. 22-24
Hemiballismus has been correlated clinico-anatomically with lesions of
the contralateral side, most commonly of the subthalamic nucleus. Hem
iballismus due to an ipsilateral lesion is extremely rare. We report t
he case of a 55 year old female who developed a right sided hemiballis
mus due to a right striatal haemorrhage, which simultaneously caused a
left hemiplegia. The hemiballismus subsided on treatment with dopamin
e-blockers over the next two weeks.
