Abstract
Contingency diagrams are particularly effective teaching tools, becaus e they provide a means for students to view the complexities of contin gency networks present in natural and laboratory settings while displa ying the elementary processes that constitute those networks. This pap er sketches recent developments in this visualization technology and i llustrates approaches for using contingency diagrams in teaching.
