Cf. Netto et al., CANDIDIN IN IMMEDIATE HYPERSENSITIVITY - COMPARISON OF 2 ANTIGENS, Journal of investigational allergology & clinical immunology, 6(6), 1996, pp. 392-394
One hundred outpatients in a Clinic of Allergy were submitted to intra
dermic tests with two types of candidins. The main focus of the resear
ch was the comparison of two antigens obtained from the same strains o
f Candida albicans: one a suspension of yeast cells and the other, a p
olysaccharide. The readings, taken 20 minutes after the intradermic in
jections, with positive results were considered as hypersensitivity of
the immediate type. Positive results were obtained in 74% of the pati
ents with the yeast cell antigen and in 73% with the polysaccharide an
tigen. This research mainly deals with the advantages that can be obta
ined by using the polysaccharide antigen in intradermic tests for eval
uating hypersensitivity of the immediate type.
