Lyophilized cultures of Aspergillus and Penicillium stored for more th
an thirty five years were examined for characters of taxonomic importa
nce. There were only few variations recorded in microscopic characters
e.g. size and shape of sterigmata, conidia etc. but a marked variatio
n in many cases in the characteristic exudates from the colonies and t
he soluble pigments in agar plates.
