Accessory jaws (distomus), with or without teeth, rarely occur. This c
ondition:lon has been observed most commonly in association with later
al facial clefts. A case of a 6-year-old child with a unilateral facia
l dimple which is interpreted as a putative vestige of a lateral facia
l cleft and accessory maxilla is reported. Possible aetiology is addre
ssed and previous cases are reviewed.
