M. Kovac et al., IN-SITU RAMAN AND ELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ROLE OF ELECTROLYTE ADDITIVES IN LI SOCL2 BATTERIES/, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, 142(5), 1995, pp. 1390-1395
A simple glass cell has been constructed for in situ Raman characteriz
ation of discharge products in Li/SOCl2 batteries with polyvinyl chlor
ide (PVC) and LiAl(SO3Cl)(4) additives. The assembly enables the chara
cterization of catholyte-soluble discharge products in the electrolyte
as well as products on the lithium and carbon electrode surfaces. The
effect of the additives was also examined by scanning electron micros
coyy/energy dispersive spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy and cor
related to the voltage delay in batteries. The best results, as regard
s to the elimination of the delay effect, were obtained with a new ele
ctrolyte consisting of LiAlCl4/SOCl2 with an admixture of PVC and LiAl
(SO3Cl)(4).
