An empirical model to determine the relative full energy peak efficien
cy, single escape peak efficiency and double escape peak efficiency fo
r an 81 cm(3) HPGe detector in a borehole environment in the photon en
ergy region 0.7-6.6 MeV has been developed. It was found that the effi
ciency curves derived can well be represented empirically by a Cauchy
polynomial. The polynomials derived can be immediately applied to pred
ict the relative efficiency values without the need to perform Monte C
arlo calculations or additional experiments.
