An automatic grid generation procedure based on a hybrid elliptic-para
bolic method for complex aircraft configurations is presented. The gri
d system consists of inner and outer grids. The inner grid near the bo
dy surface is generated by a parabolic equation with a second-order di
ssipation term. On the other hand, the enter grid with an arbitrarily
specified outer boundary is generated by an elliptic method based on t
he electro-static theory. This hybrid method is shown to be applicable
to any types of surface grids including unstructured (triangular) one
s. The Navier-Stokes simulation for an aircraft configuration was carr
ied out using the block structured grid generated by the present. hybr
id method.
