Spontaneous boiling temperatures T of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) sol
utions with various molecular masses (M = 10(2)-10(4)) in water and di
ethylene glycol were determined by the method of pulsed heating of a w
ire probe. The weight fraction of PEG in solution changed from 0 to 0.
5, and the external pressure was varied up to 2 MPa. In the concentrat
ion and pressure range studied, the T(M) function exhibits a nonmonot
onic behavior. This effect, having no analogs in the low-molecular-mas
s solutions, is interpreted in terms of the thermodynamic affinity (co
mpatibility) of the system components.
