Gb. Jensen et al., THE GENETIC-BASIS OF THE AGGREGATION SYSTEM IN BACILLUS-THURINGIENSISSUBSP ISRAELENSIS IS LOCATED ON THE LARGE CONJUGATIVE PLASMID PXO16, Journal of bacteriology, 177(10), 1995, pp. 2914-2917
The aggregation phenotypes Agr(+) and Agr(-) of Bacillus thuringiensis
subsp. israelensis are correlated with a conjugation-like plasmid tra
nsfer and characterized by the formation of aggregates when the bacter
ia are socialized during exponential growth. We present evidence for t
he association of the Agr(+) phenotype with the presence of the large
(135-MDa) self-transmissible plasmid pXO16.
